Procedural safeguards (parent rights notice)
Procedural safeguards are the legal rights parents and children have under IDEA. Schools give parents a written explanation of these rights, usually once a year and at certain other times, such as when an evaluation is first requested.
The rights include notice, consent, access to records, independent evaluations, and ways to resolve disagreements such as mediation, state complaints, and due process hearings.
Also called: procedural safeguards, parent rights, notice of procedural safeguards, parents' rights booklet, procedural safeguards notice
