Interim alternative educational setting (IAES)
An IAES is a temporary different setting where a child with a disability may be placed for certain serious incidents, such as weapons, drugs, or serious bodily injury. Federal rules limit this to not more than 45 school days.
The child's IEP team decides what the interim setting will be.
Also called: IAES, interim alternative educational setting, alternative school, alternative placement
