Change of placement (because of discipline)
A disciplinary change of placement can happen when a child is removed for more than 10 school days in a row, or when a series of shorter removals forms a pattern. Extra protections apply, such as a manifestation determination.
Whether a series of removals is a pattern is decided case by case, looking at things like whether removals total more than 10 school days in a school year, whether the behavior is substantially similar, and factors such as the length of each removal.
Also called: change of placement, disciplinary change of placement, long-term suspension, expulsion, pattern of removals
